Ozzy Osbourne, solo artist and lead vocalist of heavy metal band Black Sabbath, won the award in honor of his long career, which has spanned four decades.

Past recipients of the accolade include Alice Cooper, Lemmy and Jimmy Page.  Guitar legend Slash, the former Guns N' Roses guitarist, presented the award. He also received the Marshall "11" award "for his services to balls-out guns-blazing rock n' roll". Earlier, Osbourne and Slash enjoyed afternoon tea together at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The rock and roll stars showed their softer side as they shared tea and cakes ahead of the big night.

Osbourne joked about his award saying: "I hope I don't die on the way home." Speaking about his nomination award before the ceremony, Osbourne said: "I couldn't be happier to know that Classic Rock haven't written me off! Seriously, it's a great honor and I'm looking forward to going to my first Classic Rock Awards. Can't wait to see you there."

Buckinghamtoday.co.uk is reporting:

Rock keyboard legend Rick Wakeman and his son Adam will play a one-off charity concert in Akeley Village Hall tomorrow night.

Only a small number of tickets remain for the intimate gig, which will be the first time the father and son duo have played together for some years.

The concert, raising money for Chackmore Playschool, will feature old favourites as well as material from Rick Wakeman's latest Grumpy Old Rock Star tour.

Rick Wakeman said: "It's always nice to help out events that are associated with your family, even more so when it's helping out my beautiful granddaughter Skyla's playschool."

Mr. Wakeman Snr, a member of the world-famous progressive rock band YES, has played with some of the biggest names of modern music including DAVID BOWIE, CAT STEVENS, LOU REED and OZZY OSBOURNE.

His son Adam, who played as one half of Wakeman with Wakeman some years ago, has inherited his father's flair for music. He has just finished the 107-show Black Rain world tour with Ozzy Osbourne, and was keyboard player for best-selling UK indie band TRAVIS for four years.

OZZFEST 2008...METALLICA AND OZZY OSBOURNE RAISE THE TEMPERATURE ON THE PLANET AT ONE-DAY STADIUM SPECTACULAR IN DALLAS, TEXAS

It was a great day in Dallas.

The temperature: hot. The music: on fire. The crowd response: absolutely thunderous.

OZZFEST 2008 knocked it out of the park when two of the most colossal names in rock n' roll--Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne--came together for a one-day stadium spectacular that was the defining metal event of the year. The AEG Live promoted show grossed nearly $3.5 million and almost 30,000 fans got to experience a 13-hour show filled with legends, cutting-edge acts and OZZFEST alumni who ignited three stages at Pizza Hut Park in the hard music-loving state of Texas, including one devoted to the state’s bands.

Fans and critics agreed that both Ozzy (in his only U.S. concert appearance through the end of 2008) and Metallica (in their OZZFEST debut) delivered powerful and memorable sets. “Ozzy's turn was his best in the area in years,” said Mike Daniel in his review of the show in the DALLAS MORNING NEWS (8/10/08), adding ”…it was dramatic and brooding yet fun as a whole, especially during fantastic turns through ‘Bark at the Moon’ and ‘Suicide Solution.’” Writing in the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM about Metallica’s set, Teresa Gubbins noted that “…Metallica’s performance was so sharp and intense, it could’ve cut glass. (8/11/08)”

Before the sun went down, the day had an emotional moment when Hellyeah’s set transitioned into a special one-time only all-star tribute to fallen Pantera guitarist and Texas native “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. The four-song tribute featured three Pantera classics (“Mouth for War,” “A New Level” and “Fucking Hostile”) and a moving version of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.”  As musicians celebrated the achievements of Dimebag--whose December 2004 murder while performing onstage at a Columbus, Ohio club still has the hard rock/metal community reeling-- video images of his life were shown on stage.

The musicians participating in the all-star tribute to Dimebag Darrell Abbott were:

Kerry King (Slayer)
Scott Ian (Anthrax)
King Diamond
Vinnie Paul (Pantera/Hellyeah)
Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains)
Mike Inez (Alice in Chains/Ozzy)
Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
Max Cavalera (Sepultura/Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy)
Igor Cavalera (Sepultura/Cavalera Conspiracy)
Nick Bowcott (Grim Reaper)
Chad Gray (Mudvayne/Hell Yeah)
Bob Zilla (Damageplan/Hellyeah)

“This year’s Ozzfest was a huge success,” said Sharon, “and we couldn’t be happier.   There were so many great moments. We’re looking forward to coming back to Dallas next summer and hopefully expanding it to a two-day event.”

“Dallas was definitely the rock n’ roll capital of the world last Saturday,” said Randy Phillips, President and CEO of AEG Live.  “Pairing Ozzy with Metallica, along with so many other great acts, was a match made in heaven for the 30,000 hardcore fans who were banging their heads at Ozzfest 2008.  We can’t wait to see what Ozzy has up his sleeve for 2009, as Ozzfest just keeps getting more exciting every year.”

Why is OZZFEST such a unique event? It’s because of the family spirit that surrounds the festival, and this year's dynamic line-up encompassed artists who've played OZZFest before in different incarnations such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down); Robert Trujillo (Ozzy and now with Metallica), Jonathan Davis (Korn); Hellyeah's Vinnie Paul (Pantera) and Chad Gray (Mudvayne); Kingdom of Sorrow's Jamie Jasta (Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (Down); and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura) of Cavalara Conspiracy. Other OZZFest graduates include Shadows Fall, Sevendust, Devildriver, Drowning Pool and In This Moment. The full line-up for OZZFEST 2008 was:

This year's OZZFest sponsors included Jägermeister, Monster Energy Drink, ESP Guitars and title sponsor Affliction Clothing.

MEMBERS OF HARD ROCK COMMUNITY INCLUDING OZZFEST 2008 TALENT, FESTIVAL ALUMNI AND OTHERS BAND TOGETHER TO REMEMBER THE REVERED TEXAS NATIVE

Hard rocking music fans headed to this year’s OZZFEST will experience a special one-time only all-star tribute to fallen Pantera guitarist and Texas native “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott as part of the Saturday, August 9 one-day stadium spectacular at Dallas’ Pizza Hut Park.

The tribute to “Dimebag” Darrell will feature Abbott’s brother, Vinnie Paul, (acting as musical director and playing drums) along with an array of prominent hard rockers. This not-to-be-missed performance will salute the acclaimed guitarist whose December 2004 murder while performing onstage at a Columbus, Ohio club still has the hard rock/metal community reeling.

Artists already confirmed to honor “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott include Kerry King (Slayer), Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez (Alice In Chains), King Diamond, Scott Ian (Anthrax), Kirk Hammet (Metallica), Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed/Kingdom of Sorrow), Chad Gray (Mudvayne/Hell Yeah) and Bob Zilla (Damageplan/Hell Yeah).  These musicians will stand together onstage, following Hell Yeah’s mainstage performance, to pay their respects to their fallen friend with a set including many Pantera classics.

“Dimebag’s” longtime partner Rita Haney – who has worked tirelessly to keep his spirit alive – organized the tribute along with OZZFEST organizers.  While this began as an OZZFEST idea, Rita aggressively pursued it and brought together the talent making this homage a reality.

“To have this event on the Mainstage at OZZFEST in Dallas is such a treat and an honor!” says Rita Haney.  “When this tragedy originally happened, I saw the music community come together like I've never seen before.  To have the name ‘Dimebag’ still, to this day, unite musicians to pay homage in such a respectful way, is very overwhelming! In Dime's vision, it's always been about a damn good time!"

“When we decided on Dallas as the site for this year’s OZZFEST, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell since it was his hometown,” said Sharon Osbourne.  “’Dimebag’ was a part of our OZZFEST family and everyone in the metal community misses him dearly.”

Sponsored by Affliction Clothing, this year's OZZFEST stadium spectacular in the hard music-loving state of Texas will feature non-stop talent on three stages--the OZZFEST Main Stage, the Jagermeister Second Stage and the Monster Energy Texas Stage--as well as reliably twisted side attractions. The bill will also feature some of the hardest rocking bands--many of whom have been a part of the OZZFEST family and who will return to the OZZFEST stage in support of a festival which has opened the door for so many of today's hard rock and metal bands.

The full main stage lineup will spotlight performances by Metallica (in their OZZFEST debut), Ozzy Osbourne (in his only U.S. concert appearance through the end of 2008), Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Hellyeah, Jonathan Davis (Korn), Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica and In This Moment. Acts on The Jagermeister Second Stage include Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The Monster Energy Texas Stage--"an homage to the many great metal bands that come from Texas," says Sharon Osbourne--will feature The Sword, Drowning Pool, Rigor Mortis, Within Chaos and The Destro.

METALLICA JOINS OZZFEST FOR A ONE-DAY STADIUM SPECTACULAR

Cutting-Edge Acts and OZZFest Alumni to Ignite Three Stages at Pizza Hut Park

Dallas, TX (May 20, 2008) - Two of the most colossal names in rock n' roll—Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne--are joining forces Saturday, August 9th, 2008, for a one-day stadium spectacular, OZZFest at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas, TX. Worldwide superstars Metallica have chosen this next chapter in the evolution of OZZFest. Metallica's OZZFest debut represents one of the few shows the band will be playing in North America this year. “I am absolutely honored that Metallica is performing on OZZFest,” says Ozzy Osbourne.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said of this year’s Ozzfest, “In 1986 Ozzy gave us our first break by taking us out on tour here in America, so whenever we get the call to play or hang together, of course our response is ‘f*ck yeah… just tell us when and where and we’ll be there.’  We’re psyched about our first Ozzfest experience and looking forward to hanging with all our metal buddies on what surely will be a great f*cking day in Dallas.”

Ozzy Osbourne himself will be making his only U.S. concert appearance through the end of 2008 at the wildly popular event which bears his name, marking the transformation of the pioneering festival he founded into a one-day extravaganza spanning three stages of top metal and hard rock acts. This year's OZZFest in Pizza Hut Park in the hard music-loving state of Texas will feature three stages of non-stop talent and reliably twisted OZZFest side attractions.

The OZZFest 2008 bill will also feature some of the hardest rocking bands--many of whom have been a part of the OZZFest family and who will return to the OZZFest stage in support of a festival which has opened the door for so many of today's hard rock and metal bands.  The full main stage lineup will spotlight performances by Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Hellyeah, Jonathan Davis (Korn), Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica and In This Moment. Also scheduled on the main stage is a special all-star tribute to fallen Pantera guitarist and Texas native "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Second stage acts include Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The third Texas stage--"an homage to the many great metal bands that come from Texas," says Sharon Osbourne--will feature The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis.

This year's dynamic line-up encompasses artists who've played OZZFest before in different incarnations such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down); Robert Trujillo (Ozzy and now with Metallica), Jonathan Davis (Korn); Hellyeah's Vinnie Paul (Pantera) and Chad Gray (Mudvayne); Kingdom of Sorrow's Jamie Jasta (Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (Down); and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura) of Cavalara Conspiracy. Other OZZFest graduates include Shadows Fall, Sevendust, Devildriver, Drowning Pool and In This Moment.

“AEG is proud to work with Sharon Osbourne in bringing Metallica and Ozzfest together, making Dallas the capital of rock on August 9,” said Randy Phillips, President & CEO, AEG Live.  “And it’s a testament to Ozzy, after 13 successful years of creating one of the truly great brands in hard rock, Ozzfest has attracted Metallica to close what will become a truly iconic day.”

More than 13 years after Ozzy Osbourne started OZZFest, it remains the defining blueprint for hard rock tours and festivals that have come along since.  OZZFest is now evolving into a bigger and better stadium destination festival with headliners Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne leading the way.

Tickets for this year's OZZFest will go on sale Saturday, May 31.  For up-to-the-minute details, go to www.Ozzfest.com. This year's OZZFest sponsors include Jägermeister, Monster Energy Drink, ESP Guitars and title sponsor Affliction Clothing.
