of the choices given, I would prefer Faith No More or Fear Factory
but the others are too grungy-alternative for a metal fest

I'd love to see more classic metal bands like Deep Purple or Alice Cooper

Chains and Fear Factory would be cool.  But with Sabbath back, if there is an Ozzfest for 2012 obviously Sabbath headlining.  I'd like to see Priest extend the fairwell tour and be the co-headliner.  Other first stagers that would be cool, Megadeth, Godsmack, BLS, AIC.  You got a nice mix of generations there.

Second Stage: Testament headlining, Death Angel, Cavalera, Static X, Fear Factory, Behemoth, Skeletonwitch, and a few others that I am getting too drunk to think about lol

If Black Sabbath does headline this year I wonder if they will do the VIP Packages. Still pissed they cancelled last year's when I finally had the fucking money for it.

The Scorpions are supposed to come back to the US next year. I wonder how they would fit in at Ozzfest, if it were possible???  :-\

High on FIre
Napalm Death
Crowbar

2nd stage
Brutal Truth

Orange Goblin

Yeah, that's not even probable.  Morbid Angel will NEVER be direct support to Alice Cooper.  Regardless what tour it is.

Between either stage I would LOVE to see: Marilyn Manson, Alice in Chains, Slipknot, White Chapel, Vital Remains, Behemoth, OBVIOUSLY Ozzy, BLS, In Flames, Static X and/or mayb Kittie.

Not happening.  Majority of those bands (Pentagram, Morbid Angel, High on Fire, Incantation, Napalm Death) wouldn't be put on the main stage.  Why is it that people don't know how to do the running order on shows?  Am I the only person on here who has booked a show?

I'm with ya Crazy.  The big names always go on the main stage.  The average metalhead does not flock to see Morbid Angel, Pentagram, Napalm Death, etc.  It has to be a band that has actually had a platinum album or two.  The second stage is usually the rough crew of thrash, death, or even the occasional black metal band.  There's a business behind it.  You wouldn't have a MNF match between the Colts and Browns would you?  No, they both sucked this year and wouldn't be much of a draw.

Jay I like Soundgarden too but I like AIC better, that was my vote.  That would be cool to have Soundgarden and AIC, it would be a lighter Ozzfest than normal but I'd be down with it.  Both are hugely influenced by Sabbath.

AIC would be a great pick as well.  I guess because I've never seen Soundgarden before, that would have more excitement for me.  Both bands would be great.

Ok.

Big festivals, such as Ozzfest, should strike a balance between young and old metalheads. Putting all 80's heavy metal bands won't strike a match with modern metal audience (who respects "metal originators" but doesn't necessarily likes to listen to them). On the other hand, festival composed of just modern metal bands won't satisfy old-school metalheads.

So, in order to have a huge crowd, they gotta invite a combination of old school/new school metal.

Anyways, my personal 2012 wish list doesn't include just my favorite bands; instead I wanna try to satisfy as many metalheads as possible (though, of course, with a lot of my personal taste ;)). It doesn't include bands that will be on this year's Mayhem for obvious reasons:

MAIN STAGE
Ozzy/Black Sabbath (gotta have the master that started this fest)
Lamb of God (I bet they're gonna have their own headlining tour though)
Megadeth (not a fan really, but again, gotta respect bands that our modern metal bands grew up listening to)
Moonspell (awesome gothic metal band)
Behemoth (I know they're doing tour in April, but there is a tiny chance; plus they're my favorite band lately)
Apocalyptica (little experimental, but might work)

SECOND STAGE
Rage Against the Machine (for hard rockers; they can really pump up the crowd)
Fear Factory (for everyone, really)
Amon Amarth (for viking metalheads)
Coal Chamber (I heard they're re-uniting; this would satisfy nu-metalheads)
Arkona (new-ish pagan metal band; getting more attention lately)
Bishop of Hexen (since, in my opinion, Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth put out really shitty music lately, other extreme metal bands should take their place like this one)

JAGERMEISTER/THIRD STAGE
Combichrist (good aggrotech band; since Rammstein is doing their own thing)
Bleeding Through (band that should satisfy metalcore kids that is actually not bad)
Septic Flesh (gotta have some great death metal band on the list)
Tidfall (my personal wish; I know that they're not active but they still make some amazing symphonic/electronic black metal)
Kamelot (cool power metal, though I miss the old singer)
local band (gotta give chance to our local shredders)

I guess that's it. I don't wanna include too many hardcore/screamo bands. I believe Warped tour is a more proper place for them. Because of that, I know some will complain, but I really want Ozzfest to be more metal, as it was meant to be.

Cheers!

I think there should be a local band on there.  Ozzfest is known for bringing the lesser known bands out there, so why not bring the smallest of bands out there and give them their 15 minutes of fame?  Hell, for all I care, give them a 15 min spot opening the main stage so they can get some REAL exposure.

bring back Battle for Ozzfest.  it was a good idea that would work again with a little tweeking.
putting a local band on each date would bring out their fans.  and it's a good way of throwing them
to the lions.  ya wanna be a rock and roll band?  prove it!

Yes!  Great idea!  I think fans would appreciate that as much as the bands themselves.

Major bands need to give more credit to the locals.  Most of them were in that spot at some point when they were DYING to open for this national that might bring 200 people because that's the biggest band that will let them open.  I was talking to Eyal Levi (DAATH) @ Summer Slaughter in Ft Worth back in '07.  There were 3 stages being used.  To quote him, "I think that every band here could get some kind of contract with the right exposure".  Maybe playing Ozzfest would give them the right exposure.

With some obvious exceptions, the past few OzzFests have been very... meh...
I think, with a break last year, it needs to go back to formula. I mean 2 proper stages, with Second Stage being for rising stars in the Metal/Rock World and Headlined by an established band that does well on an intimate stage (i.e. Rob Zombie, Slipknot, HIM).  The Main Stage needs to be revitalized.  I'd like to see the Headliners be Black Sabbath or Ozzy and supported by other great, established bands that have a history of incredible stage shows (again, Rob Zombie and Slipknot come to mind as perfect examples, as does Marilyn Manson).
The problem is, though, a lot of bands that would help to rejuvinate OzzFest are busy during the summer.  Rob Zombie has his "Lords of Salem" film coming, as well as a potential tour.  Slipknot and Slayer are busy with the Mayhem Tour.  Marilyn Manson will (most likely) be doing his own thing this summer to promote Born Villain.  Who does this leave?

Well, HIM is a favorite of Ozzy himself, and an obvious choice to headline Second Stage.  They could realistically have a spot on Main Stage, but they perform much better in the intimate settings that the Second Stage present.  They are working on a follow-up to Screamworks, so a summer tour to begin promotion for that is a very real possibility.

Guns N Roses is a clear choice to co-headline Main Stage.  As of right now, they have no summer plans, and with the HOF induction stirring-up rumors of a proper reunion, what better stage than OzzFest to re-introduce themselves to the Metal/Rock Community?

Judas Priest is another band that comes to mind.  Although they seem to have the early-summer planned out, OzzFest seems to begin later in the summer every year.

MSI is another incredible band that could easily headline Second Stage, or secure a spot on Main Stage.  They're always entertaining and have a very devout following. They do have a spring tour lined-up, but nothing for the summer... yet.

Linkin Park could easily grab a spot on Main Stage (if not co-headline).  With no new LPs released since 2010's A Thousand Suns, they seem like a stretch.  But, I think they've entered the part of their career where they could tour with the impressive library of tracks, and nobody would say boo about it.

What about Eminem?  Yeah, he's a rapper, I got that.  But he really would grab attention as a choice, wouldn't he? And, metal-heads seem to dig him (well, my metal-head friends).  He's a talented artist who has always seemed like a rock star in a rapper's world.  While he hasn't released anything since Recover in 2010, he's known for touring just because... well... he's Eminem.  I think it's a long-shot, but not out of the realm of possibility.

The point I guess I'm trying to make is that OzzFest needs to be given the ever-popular "reboot."  Yes, traditional acts would suffice, they need to throw in some "left-fielders" to grab the attention of their waning audience.

Why not? They were direct support for Black Sabbath back in 93 or 94.  of course Morbid Angel still had balls then.

Where's the "OTHER" option in the poll for bands? I wouldnt want to see ANY of the bands listed.
How about actually having some speed, thrash and death metal bands for a change? OVERKILL anyone?

Once again, people have no idea how to arrange the line-up for a show.  Even if it's their dream show, they should at least make it believable.  Also, about Morbid Angel being direct support to Sabbath.  In '93 and '94, after all the originals left Sabbath, they had gotten a lot smaller, playing much smaller venues and having much smaller bands opening for them.

Lamb of God, Shitknot, and System of a Dick are all headlining tours this year (Shitknot on Mayhem).  Disturbed and Chevelle suck.  Mudvayne have been gay since that CD before The Game.  Soulfly are on or recently finished a US tour so that puts them out.  I don't know what Tool and Bury Your Dead are doing, but they'd be cool to see.
