1306  Forum / General Discussions / BEST LIVE SHOW YOU HAVE EVER SEEN. on: April 23, 2008, 10:24:42 pm
okay, 1985, Kalamazoo Michigan Timber Ridge Ski Resort.  Can't remeber the name of the festival but we left Chicago at 3am and got there about 8am.  Show went on at 9am with Accept (Balls to the Wall!) followed by Night Ranger, Motley Crue, Ozzy - Bark at the Moon tour (with Bob Daisley, Jake E Lee, Tommy Aldridge and Don Airey), and Triumph.  Ted Nugent was supposed to be there but cancelled (supposedly) because of Ozzy.  We were right up front the whole damn time, got horrible sunburns, climbed the hill during Triumph and passed out.  To this day Triumph gets me sleepy.

all I need now is a graphic of a kid, covered in chocolate ice cream, kicking the back of the driver's seat.

Alpine Valley?!?!?! hell yah!  it's a Live Nation venue so start there.  they haven't announced any shows for this season yet (since I checked last week).  We've been rockin' there since 1979.  I love that place so much I want my ashes scattered there.  Even better, a funeral pyre in the parking lot!  See you in the Valley View Lounge?::laugh

Seen Randy, Jake, Brad, and of course Zakk.  Seen Jake with his band Badlands . . . not bad.  Still hanging onto the whammy bar for all it's worth.

ah I love being old in these situations.  hearing I Don't Know for the first time on my old clock radio (the kind with the flip-over numbers) and freaking out to how great it was is a cherished memory for me.  Blizzard of Ozz was in my collection by the time the record store closed that day.

because that's what they want, you know, like, to SHOCK you    ooooooooo
the kids today are so SHOCKING!

they smile quietly to themselves with a superior little giggle going on in their heads, thinking they came up with it first.  seen it all.  not surprised, or impressed.

ministry a bit far fetched?  they were supposed to headline 2nd stage (1999) and cancelled because they refused to go on that early.  joe kelly snuck up behind us on the lawn and screamed "that should be us up there!"::finger      maybe they're over it by now . . .

more local bands on second stage!  remember the days when promoters would sneak one of the better local bands in a city on first slot to fill time and draw their fans in?

and ain't it about time Manson got his own travelling circus?::c_stare

just as long as we don't have to go through the whole setting-it-up-again procedure.  it took forever for me to update from '06 to '07 and by that time the fest had come & gone.

1318  Forum / General Discussions / How old is too old for Ozzfest..... on: March 09, 2008, 08:55:49 pm
Its such a good thing that Alpine is totally wheelchair accessible - except those hills are sooo steeeeep (wheeeeeeee!).  You can really tell who wants to be there and who went because their chick/dude 'made' them go.  We always breathe a sigh of relief when we see this one friend and ask him where SHE is and he says she refused to come this time.  Whoo Hoooo!  Let the real party begin!

It's not if you're too old, it's if you are mature enough to handle it.  Yeah I get a little uneasy around the really little kids (under 6) especially later in the day, seeing some of the stuff that goes on, but they seem to handle it better than some of the pouty-ass people who insist on leaving in the middle of Ozzy's set to get out of the parking lot before everyone else.

The last time we went to Ozzfest at Tinley Park was 2004.  The difference between the crowd there and at Alpine is like night and day.  The Alpine crowd has a wider age range and they were more into the fest part of it, compared to the Tinley Park crowd which was more of a teens/20s crowd that didn't seem to care about the vendors and were more interested in the music.  So go figure.

Right before my boss' mom died (she made it to 99) she told me, "Honey, never get old.  Just because you live a long time doesn't mean you have to grow up."  As long as Ozzy keeps coming to play, we're going to see him.

1320  Forum / General Discussions / How do you travel to Ozzfest? on: March 07, 2008, 10:22:14 pm
we drive about 90 miles the day before the show, get a room, a good meal, many beers & shots and a good night's sleep.  depending on the second stage line-up, we might fart around in the hotel for a while, drink & eat cheap before going into the show ($2 millers vs. $8 budweisers).  after the show, make it back to the room (eventually after hooking up with other veterans) and maybe stay an extra day or two if we can.
