Hmm, if I were to compare 06 to 07....
In terms of quality of releases, I'd probably give it to 06 (which saw the releases of AMOLAD from Iron Maiden and With Oden on Our Side by Amon Amarth , which are both some of their best works imo)
If I were to count the number of releases each year I enjoyed, it might be pretty close. Same goes for number of disappointments though.
i agree with the amon amarth and maiden stuff you said. but this year my 2 favorite bands bith put out new albums (the Apostasy, Itthyphalic) i have to go with 2007
As much as I like Behemoth and Nile, I only found the new albums to be "ok", not spectacular though, not probably not in my top 20.
the apostasy was in my oppinion one of the best behemoth albums ever along with pandemonic incantations and satanica, and the nile albums was good just not as good as their other ones. I see what you mean.
This was a shitty metal album year tho. A lot of metalcore crap came out, and behemoth, nile, black dahlia, machine head, and arch enemy (which wasnt that great of an album anyway). Next year should be better Bodom, Metallica, Gojira, Kalmah, and Necrophagist should be good enough.
