Aidan O’Brien’s El Salvador found plenty in the closing stages to justify favouritism in the SeanieMac.com Race at Killarney last night.

The durable son of Galileo got a fine drive from Aidan’s daughter, Ana, who continues to improve and impress.

The five-year-old moved smoothly through the contest, but Ana then had to get deadly serious with him from the two furlong pole.

She had a willing partner, however, and El Salvador battled on powerfully to hold Fire Fighter and Gambling Girl by three parts of a length and a neck.

Commented Aidan: “He’s a grand horse, he seems to be best when busy and will be kept busy.”

O’Brien’s Blackstone, who had been proving rather frustrating, got his act together in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden, this time with his son, Joseph, in the plate.

The Fastnet Rock colt travelled generously enough throughout and went to the front approaching the furlong pole.

Elusive Laurence tried to close down the winner, but was always being held and was half a length adrift at the line.

Said O’Brien: “In fairness to the horse, he jumped three ‘water’ jumps at Fairyhouse the last day!” The double brought the Ballydoyle handler’s total for the season to 51.

Charles Byrnes’ grand veteran Mahrajaan produced a fine effort for Philip Enright to win the Bourn Vincent Memorial Handicap Chase.

Mahrajaan forged ahead between the final two fences, after recovering from a blunder at the fourth last, to beat front running Nearly Nama’d, who got in tight to two out.

Said Byrnes: “He has a lot of it done, but seems to be staying that bit better now. For an 11-year-old to win a big pot like that is fantastic.”

Stay de Night, who won a moderate race on his debut at Limerick, stepped well up on that performance to beat some useful rivals in the Dermot O’Leary Memorial Rated Race.

Giving Dermot Weld his 55th success of the campaign — he leads the Messi jersey way numerically — the son of Shamardal eased into the lead nearing the furlong pole for Real Madrid jersey 2015 sale Pat Smullen to beat Strait Of Zanzibar by a comfortable two lengths.

Reported Smullen: “I am happy with that, these messi jersey 2015 were ideal conditions, not too quick.”

John Oxx’s Rayna completed a hat trick when defying top weight to land the Ross Gold Course Handicap.

Her previous win came at Leopardstown, when partnered by Gary Halpin, having his first ride for Oxx.

Oxx decided to maintain the partnership and that was a wise decision, with Halpin’s 7lbs claim so important.

Halpin kicked the daughter of Selkirk into the lead with less than two furlongs to go and she kept finding to hold the late rush of Unchartered Waters by a neck.

Andrew Lynch, stood down after riding Loosen My Load in the previous race - he didn’t take a fall - missed a winning ride aboard Fort George in the MC Group Handicap Chase. Lynch, however, did suffer a tumble on Monday night and will have his left hand X-rayed this morning.

Trained by Henry de Bromhead, Fort George was given a dashing drive by Barry Geraghty.

The winner was powered into the lead coming away from the fourth last and then held on close home to beat Tylers Cottage.

Racing concluded with Willie Mullins’ Alelchi Inois showing much greater resolution than Domination to beat his rival by a length and a quarter in the Christy McSweeney Memorial Novice Chase.

Besides Andrew Lynch, there were four other casualties during the evening. Paul Carberry suffered a suspected broken collarbone, while Mark Enright (lower back), Philip Enright (wrist) and Moira McElligott (ankle) were also in the wars.

Anti-doping figures released for last year indicate Rugby Union, on an international level, is showing a higher percentage of positive test results than either cycling or athletics.
The Barcelona N98 jacket International Rugby Board yesterday welcomed the figures but said this does not mean rugby is less clean than other sports listed in the report.
The findings, which come from the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), are a result of the testing body combining all of their laboratory findings across Olympic sports in 2013.
The findings, taken from both blood and urine samples, were made public on July 8th.
The figures show rugby’s figure of 1.3 per cent is a higher Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) than both athletics and cycling, which both come in at 1. 2 per cent. An AAF means the presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolite was found in the sample.
“What it doesn’t mean is rugby is less clean than other sports,” said an IRB spokesman. “You cannot deduce that. What it shows is that an intelligent anti-doping program in rugby is working and catching those using illegal substances.
“We want to catch people using banned substances. A lot of our testing is targeted and we focus a lot on the Under 20s.
“Quite often positive tests would come from supplements. We know they are particularly susceptible there, so education is also a big part of our program. These figures show they will be tested and they will be caught if they use illegal substances.”
The figures include all analyses conducted by the 33 Wada- accredited laboratories for in- and out-of-competition testing and by the two additional laboratories that have been approved by Wada. Those laboratories conduct blood testing exclusively for one of the most important anti-doping tools to be introduced in recent years, the Athlete Biological Passport.
In all, 6,126 samples were taken in rugby across the 33 laboratories, which appears comparatively low compared to 22,252 taken in cycling and 11,585 in athletics. Cycling’s very high testing rate is because Wada targets sports that have proven to be drug user-friendly.
Forensic scrutiny
Cycling’s disgrace in previous years has attracted more forensic scrutiny. The figures are not broken down into constituent countries.
The samples in which rugby was included were for Olympic sports. Both rugby and golf will be part of the 2016 program in Rio, although in rugby only Seven’s is included. Golf returned an adverse finding of 0.4 per cent from a sample size of 483.
While Fifa revealed astonishingly good results for the recent World Cup in Brazil and had no positive tests from any players, football in general registered a figure of 0.5 Manchester City jersey 2015 per cent in 2013.
It is only the second time figures have been compiled by Wada in this way, where all accredited laboratories report their positive results. According to the organisation the results offer “the most robust and transparent reflection of the global state of anti-doping testing to date”.
In February, the IRB announced they had taken a record 1,831 in- and out-competition controls across men’s and women’s tournaments that resulted in just three Real Madrid jersey 2015 anti-doping violations, equating to 0.16 per cent of the entire programme.
The IRFU did not wish to comment. “Our anti-doping program is in line with the International Rugby Board and Irish Sports Council Anti-Doping criteria and we believe that it is very robust. This is a global study and the IRFU are not in a position to comment,” a spokesman did say.
The average Wada figure for all the sports was 0.97 per cent.

Baseball has a problem: Clayton Kershaw, Aroldis Chapman, Felix Hernandez and all the other kings of the hill that were on display at Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game are just too good.

Ruling with an assortment of big-bending curveballs, sharp sliders and 100 mph heat, a new generation of pitchers has thrown major league hitters into a huge slump.

The spike in strikeouts, the dip in home runs and worries that the game is becoming boring for Chelsea authentic jersey 2015 fans reminds some people of 1968, when Bob Gibson, Denny McLain and their fellow aces dominated.

Back then, the sport came up with a radical solution: The pitcher’s mound was lowered from 15 inches to 10 and the strike zone was reduced.

Combined with the addition of four expansion teams, the result was an 11-point increase in the big league batting average in 1969 and a 19 percent rise in runs.

Should baseball drop the mound again?

“I don’t know, man, maybe if they keep going like this,” Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton said Monday at the All-Star festivities.

“Move the mound back 5 feet,” he added with a chuckle.

There’s some thought that reducing the mound would combat the outbreak of blown-out elbows, which has seen stars such as Stephen Strasburg, Matt Harvey and Jose Fernandez needing reconstructive surgery, and could also claim Masahiro Tanaka.

With low-run games again in vogue and defensive shifts taking away hits, there’s been more emphasis on small ball. That’s prompted questions about whether this is a cyclical change, or if this style is here to stay.

From his vantage point in the Mets broadcast booth, former NL MVP Keith Hernandez has an unusual analysis and an equally drastic solution.

“They should get rid of four teams,” he said. “Too many players. There’s too much dilution of talent. The pitching’s not better. It’s the same.

“I think that the residuals of steroids and aluminum bats has affected how they taught kids how to hit, and now we’re seeing normal bodies and balls that used to get out of the ballpark are caught now,” he said.

It wasn’t too long ago that batters had the edge. The boom years peaked in 2000 with an average of 1.17 home runs per team per game. The runs average of 5.14 was MLB’s highest since 1936.

But offense has steadily shrunk — as have the players — as baseball implemented testing for performance-enhancing drugs and then repeatedly strengthened those rules.

And with complete games virtually a relic, hard-throwing relievers dominate the late innings. Radar guns routinely register mph readings around triple digits.

“Everybody’s throwing 109, so you don’t get to see the starters for your fourth turn,” said Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, exaggerating only slightly. “There’s a lot of guys in the bullpen that are special guys.”

All that gas has contributed to more than two dozen pitchers needing Tommy John surgery this year.

Dr. David Altchek, the Mets’ top physician, said a lower mound “should decrease the force as the body gets less far ahead of the arm.”

“As the body falls down the mound, the arm momentarily lags and forces at the elbow cumulate,” he said.

But Glenn Fleisig of the American Sports Medicine Institute counters that recent studies disagree whether lowering or eliminating the mound would slightly cut or slightly increase the stress on an adolescent pitcher’s arm.

“Reducing the amount of competitive pitching is the most strongly proven action for reducing the risk of pitching injuries,” he said.

This much is certain: The major league batting average is down to .252 this year, according to STATS. It hasn’t been that low since 1972, the year Bayern Munich jersey 2015 before the American League adopted the designated hitter.

David Price would prefer to remain with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The all-star left-hander knows that is unlikely to occur.

With the Rays tied for last place at the All-Star Game break, the team’s most marketable player said Monday in Minneapolis that expects to be wearing a new uniform at some point in the near future.

“Coming up in our organization, I’ve seen it happen before with guys like (James) Shields and (Matt) Garza and Delmon (Young) and (Jason) Bartlett,” Price said. “We’ve had quite a few guys at this point in the season go through the trade rumors.

“Since 2012, (the organization and I) both understood that for Tampa to continue the kind of success we’ve had over the past five or six years, this is the way they operate.“

Price was the first overall pick in the 2007 draft, and he is set to make his fourth All-Star Game appearance Tuesday at Target Argentina Authentic jersey Field. This year, he is 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA in 20 starts. Price won the 2012 American League Cy Young Award when he finished 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA.

The 28-year-old Vanderbilt product is under team control through the 2015 season before Germany Autentic jersey he would be eligible for free agency for the first time. He avoided arbitration this year by agreeing to a one-year, $14 million deal.

“I’d love to stay (with Tampa Bay) and continue to be competitive, but I don’t know if that’s even a possibility,“ he said. “They signed (third baseman Evan) Longoria, so it’s not unheard of, but I don’t know if they can do two people that way.“

Looking ahead to potential destinations, Price said, “I could be anywhere, actually. The Rays said they don’t have a problem trading me in the division. That opens Arsenal jersey 2015 the doors for a couple of other teams. I don’t think I’d have a problem fitting in anywhere. I know a lot of guys in the big leagues now. I at least know somebody from every team. That always helps.

“The Rays have traded quite a few guys away or let a few guys go who are in the big leagues now. I guess I’d just have to learn how to handle everything.”
