What sucks about the 'fans' is that 1/2 of them don't even know what the stages are called.

Note what Ozzy says about festivals being "ghettoized." That's what I say about the lineups discussed here. I really hope he brings in way more variety then last year. With respect to those who love the black metal or melodic/scream vocalist (aka 5 Finger) genres, the bands mentioned on p.1 of this thread and much of p.2 do not in the least interest me. YUK.

-------------------

Here is an interesting article on what the mainstream public is buying in the rock genre.

Billboard magazine has published a list of the top-selling hard rock and metal albums, ranked by sales data as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. (Note: Not all the albums on the list were actually released during 2010.) It is as follows:

01. Dark Horse - NICKELBACK [not the greatest compared to past stuff]
02. A Thousand Suns - LINKIN PARK [haven't heard it but would love to see the band.]
03. Iron Man 2 (Soundtrack) - AC/DC
04. The Oracle - GODSMACK [sucks]
05. Nightmare - AVENGED SEVENFOLD [ok if you are into the teen angst thing]
06. Asylum - DISTURBED[very conservative but does show some new stuff.]
07. Dear Agony - BREAKING BENJAMIN [haven't heard it]
08. The Sound Of Madness - SHINEDOWN [haven't heard it but seen them live and yawn.]
09. Them Crooked Vultures - THEM CROOKED VULTURES  [haven't heard it]
10. Valleys Of Neptune - JIMI HENDRIX
11. Night Castle - TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA
12. War Is The Answer - FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH [haven't heard it]
13. Life Starts Now - THREE DAYS GRACE [haven't heard it]
14. Greatest Hits - FOO FIGHTERS [haven't heard it]
15. Scream - OZZY OSBOURNE [love it]
16. Memento Mori - FLYLEAF [haven't heard it]
17. Fever - BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE [haven't heard it]
18. Black Gives Way To Blue - ALICE IN CHAINS [some good songs. it would be awesome to see them.]
19. Backspacer - PEARL JAM
20. Cage The Elephant - CAGE THE ELEPHANT

21. Full Circle - CREED [meh. get over the apologies Scott. but would like to see them.]
22. Greatest Hits - MÖTLEY CRÜE [ugh, no more please]
23. Slash - SLASH [awesome]
24. Diamond Eyes - DEFTONES [haven't heard it]
25. Hellbilly Deluxe 2 - ROB ZOMBIE [haven't heard it but all Zombie sounds the same to me. his show is only new once]
26. Korn III: Remember Who You Are - KORN [meh]
27. Scars & Souvenirs - THEORY OF A DEADMAN [haven't heard it]
28. The Final Frontier - IRON MAIDEN [not that great, though I loved A Matter of Life and Death]
29. Stone Temple Pilots - STONE TEMPLE PILOTS  [haven't heard it]
30. Mudvayne - MUDVAYNE [haven't heard it]
31. Tri-Polar - SICK PUPPIES [haven't heard it but do like some of their stuff
32. Audio Secrecy - STONE SOUR [haven't heard it]
33. Greatest Hits - THE WHO
34. Greatest Hits - BON JOVI

35. Powerless Rise - AS I LAY DYING [haven't heard it]
36. All Hope Is Gone - SLIPKNOT [meh]
37. Year Of The Black Rainbow - COHEED AND CAMBRIA [haven't heard it]

38. Stampede - HELLYEAH [haven't heard it]
39. Chickenfoot - CHICKENFOOT  [haven't heard it. they are good but the name wtf!]
40. Swan Songs - HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD [haven't heard it]
41. Order Of The Black - BLACK LABEL SOCIETY [awesome]
42. Volume 4: Songs In The Key Of Love And Hate - PUDDLE OF MUDD [haven't heard it]
43. All Night Long - BUCKCHERRY [haven't heard it]
44. For We Are Many - ALL THAT REMAINS [haven't heard it]
45. Desperate Measures - HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD [haven't heard it]
46. Miss America - SAVING ABEL [haven't heard it]
47. Custom Built - BRET MICHAELS [haven't heard it]
48. Cold Day Memory - SEVENDUST [haven't heard it]
49. World Painted Blood - SLAYER [haven't heard it]
50. Sonic Boom - KISS [haven't heard it]

green = I'd like to see them
white = no opinion, haven't heard their stuff
brown = not valid choice or not interested

    * Eminem - Recovery was the top selling album of 2010. I dig his music.
    * Sade - Soldier of Love. Haven't heard it, but I like Sade. She came in #14.
    * Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. I like some of their stuff. They came in at #10.
    * Slash - his new album is awesome

I know most of you might think other genre's are gay, but I had beyond a GREAT time at Vegoose when they crossed genre barriers and brought all kinds of music together.

Way more fun then if they'd stuck to a single style. It was such a freaking blast. I mingled with people I'd never mingled with before, as I'm sure was the same for them. The commonality wasn't in the genre, it was in the pure love of music. It was awesome.

I heard bands I'd known only by name or not at all. They had 2 stages going with different genre's on them. So if you weren't into one band you could walk 500 yards and watch someone else. It was a 2 day festival from morning till late night - woot!

Here was the lineup for 2007 Vegoose:

    * Rage Against the Machine
    * Daft Punk
    * Iggy & the Stooges performing the album Fun House
    * Muse
    * The Shins
    * Cypress Hill
    * Queens of the Stone Age
    * moe.
    * Public Enemy
    * Michael Franti & Spearhead
    * STS9
    * Umphrey's McGee
    * Thievery Corporation
    * M.I.A.
    * Mastodon
    * Robert Randolph and the Family Band
    * Ghostface Killah & The Rhythm Roots Allstars
    * Blonde Redhead
    * Gogol Bordello
    * U.N.K.L.E.
    * Ghostland Observatory
    * Pharoah Monch
    * Battles
    * Lupe Fiasco
    * Animal Liberation Orchestra
    * Atmosphere
    * Infected Mushroom
    * Federico Aubele

It definitely works if you can keep an open mind about music and aren't closed to Ozzfest as "a metal festival only."

It is not likely but to see (in no particular order):

    * U2
    * AC/DC
    * Lady Gaga
    * Dave Matthews Band
    * Paul McCartney
    * Black Eyed Peas
    * Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
    * Nickelback
    * Elton John
    * Muse
    * Michael Franti and Spearhead
    * System of a Down
    * Marilyn Manson
    * Alice Cooper
    * Daft Punk
    * Eminem
    * Slash
    * Sade
    * A good punk band
    * Impellitteri
    * Black Sabbath/Ozzy
    * Metallica
    * Megadeth
    * Mudvayne
    * Five Finger Death Punch
    * Disturbed
    * Alice in Chains
    * Mastadon
    * DeathRiders
    * Three Days Grace
    * 3 Doors Down
    * Black Label Society
    * Close to Home
    * Jet Black Stare
    * Rains
    * Skillet
    * Sick Puppies
    * Linkin Park
    * Creed
    * Breaking Benjamin

If these top selling bands are out of the ballpark, maybe a search across different sources for the best new bands of 2010 could net some variety for the festival.

==============

"Concert attendance may have hit a low and tour cancelations may have been common this summer, but in 2010, many touring bands and soloists still made it work. Rock, pop, country, oldies, international -- artists of all genres hit the road and came back with full pockets to prove it. Watch videos from the year's top 25 tours, and relive your moment in the front row. (Artists are ranked by total gross earnings, according to Billboard Boxscore, from Nov. 22, 2009 through Nov. 20, 2010.)" [http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/54197958.html]
