Bear regained consciousness two hours ago. He is disoriented and the infection is still around, but this hurdle has been jumped. He will be evaluated and transfered out of the ICU, but will remain in the hospital for another week minimum. He could be fighting the infection off for as short as another week or as long as another three. He will be undergoing many tests over the next few days to get a grasp of the damage that was done. He still needs to keep fighting but as bear would say "this beachhead is secured!".
Everyone was so happy and so many people were there that I have yet to talk with him personally. His wife will spend a quiet night alone with him tonight. The infection will be evaluated in the morning, and he will be moved to a nicer personal room. I should have a chance tomorrow to talk with him and tell him of everyone heres thoughts and wishes.

I'm really glad to hear that. When I read that he finally woke up I was literally like "Yes!" *fist clench of celebration*

I read this last night but could not respond because I was using a computer that only had IE loaded on it and it was error filled. Then I lost my ISP. ::stare

Not much for today. Didn't get to talk with the research doctor before he headed homeward to beantown. He did talk with Bear's wife, and I should get that info tomorrow. The local doctors aren't saying much more than 'we need to do more tests to have any conclusive idea'. Seems we are back to the run around BS as the local docs don't seem to have the backbone to tell the hard truth. While sitting with him he seems confused and rambled about things I didn't really understand. He gets extremely agitated at times, and was complaining of excessive pain. The doctors won't give him anything for the pain right now, something about 'potential relapse'. I replied to the doc that told me that "You better hope the pain doesn't make him relapse into a volatile state while he recalls that he hates doctors. ". The big upside for today is, he is in a much nicer room now and has a radio. The local stations suck so I jacked my ipod into it and left it with him on shuffle.

Not much to actually report. Our town had their huge weekend with the fair in town and fireworks , etc. The doctors all took off and left him on antibiotics and being watched by the part timers and a temp agency doc. The specialist said he will have some damage and doesn't know how long it will be around or if it will be permanent. He is scheduled for a bunch of tests over the next few days to evaluate his physical and mental wellbeing. We still haven't quite figured out his ramblings. He is agitated because they won't let him get out of bed and the fact he is in a hospital (he hates hospitals, especially the one he is in). I know I shouldn't have probably done this but I snuck him in some of his pain medication. He was at ease and seemed not to be as stuck on words as he was without, still rambled but, that was expected. His wife watched over him as he was taking it , she is a nurse. Hopefully we will know more as he gets evaluated over the next few days.
