Band:
Ominous Grief
Country:
Turkey
Genre:
Melodic/Progressive Black Metal
Members:
Cuneyt Caglayan - Guitars
Guun Evren - Bass & Vocals
Ilke Ulas Kuvanc: Guitars
Caglar Yurut - Drums
Discography:
- Nothing in Remembrance (2007)
What i like about the Band:
Love the riffs, love the vocals, love the melodies, love the drumwork.... the album is just fucking great. I've already recommended this before, but it ought to be in the thread anyway. The songwritting is extremely good. Nothing is overdone. And NO! constant blast beats.... there's hardly any. And you'd think mixing Jazz with Black metal would just sound horrid, right? WRONG!... listen to "Demon's Lair." Simply a great new band, with a fresh sound.
Sounds Like:
Runic
Eternal Tears of Sorrow

Band:
Visions of Atlantis
Country:
Austria
Genre:
Symphonic Power Metal
Members:
Melissa Ferlaak - Vocals
Mario Plank - Vocals
Wolfgang "Wops" Koch - Guitars
Martin Harb - Synthesizer
Michael Koren - Bass
Thomas Caser - Drums
Discography:
- Eternal Endless Infinity (2002)
- Cast Away (2004)
- Trinity (2007)
What i like about the Band:
Take the riffs from Artrosis and Paradise lost, then add the Melodies from Evenfall and you get.... VISIONS OF ATLANTIS. They're supposedly a Power Metal band, and they do show quite a lot more Power Metal in their music than other similar bands. (Female Fronted) But they still have a symphonic side to their music, it all fits well. Those of you familiar with this genre... well, it's nothing new; just a good album.
Sounds Like:
Artrosis
Paradise Lost
Evenfall
Epica... not really, but they'll end up being compared to them anyway.

Band:
Lacrimas Profundere
Country:
Germany
Genre:
Gothic/Death/Doom (Early) / Gothic Rock (Newer)
Members:
Peter Kafka - vocals
Oliver Nikolas Schmid - guitars
Daniel Lechner - bass
Christian Steiner - keyboards
Willi Wurm - drums
Tony Berger - guitars
Discography:
- ...And the Wings Embraced Us (1995)
- ...La Naissance d'un R????ve (1997)
- Memorandum (1999)
- Burning: A Wish (2001)
- Fall, I Will Follow (2002)
- Ave End (2004)
- Filthy Notes For Frozen Hearts (2006)
What i like about the Band:
Lets say theres a contest on what band can put in the most emotion into their music; Lacrimas Profundere would win by a landslide. It's some heavy shit, i wouldn't recommended for you suicidal folks; you'll end up killing yourselves. Anyway, Memorandum is their best album; easily better than anything My Dying Bride ever did. They're very melodic, they use dual vocals (1 growl/1 Clean) but they're both dudes..... so no Beauty and the Beast here; Just Beast and the mini-beast. Well... listen to their songs on myspace and see if you enjoy.
Sounds Like:
Novembers Doom
My Dying Bride
Anathema (Old)

Definitely going to give all of Strat's recommendations a try - he recommended Blind Stare to me on the old board, and they're great.

Band:
In Lingua Mortua
Country:
Norway
Genre:
Progressive/Melodic Black Metal
Discography:
- Bellowing Sea - Racked by Tempest (2007)
What i like about the Band:
Really different black metal imo. It's melodic, then progressive, then melodic again. Some of the songs sound like a soundtrack of a movie. They have piano parts that transition into furious black metal riffs that will make you pump your fist into the air. There is even a trumpet or trombone part in the last song. Highly recommended.
Sounds Like:
Nobody really (that I know of)

Hollenthon

Symphonic/Orchestral Folk Metal
Members:

Elena Schirenc - Female Vocals
Martin Schirenc - Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards
Discography:
- Domus Mundi (1999)
- With Vilest of Worms to Dwell (2007)
What i like about the Band:
Domus Mundi was like a folk album that covered many regions of the world, from bavarian, to scandinavia, and even some middle eastern. Its a fucken great album, there are elements of black metal (very very little though) some doom and melodic death too. They are better than Fjoergyn. And these dudes never bore either. Every instrument is played to damn near perfection. Domus Mundi has a couple of songs with gregorian chants... they're fucking orgasmic songs. A MUST-LISTEN!
Sounds Like:
Fjoergyn

Why did you put 2007 after With Violest of Worms to dwell?

Band:
Dispatched
Country:
Sweden
Genre:
Power Metal/Melodic Death
Members:
Daniel Lundberg - Lead guitar, Keyboards, backup vocals
Fredrik Karlsson - Lead vocals, bass
Emil Larsson - Rhythm guitar
Dennis Nilsson - Drums
Discography:
- Blackshadows (1994)
- Motherwar (2000)
- Terrorizer (2004)
What i like about the Band:
It's Power Metal with Melo-death Vocals...... as a huge fan of both genre's; this band combines the best elements of both into one. Very agressive riffs and vocals... but the melody of a great Swedish PM band is always there. An interesting listen... and their cover of "THE FINAL COUNTDOWN" owns. Thats the big cover everybody thinks COB did.... but it's this band.
Sounds Like:
Mercenary.... Especially like "FIrst Breath" album.

Band: Shadowthronew
Country: Switzerland
Genre: Black/Death Metal
Discography:
- Quoth the Raven Nevermore
What i like about the Band: The vocalist does a good job from Black/Death into the song, both fit into their genres well. Its not just pound the dbl bass whole time either, good stuff
Sounds Like:
Vocals sound like November's Doom, What you would expect from Death and Black metal imo
