How do you compose heavy/thrash metal?

Anyone?  I know basic music theory but I don't know how to apply it to metal.  I play guitar.

Its hard for me to describe how I write my stuff.  I find inspiration from my influences like Gorgoroth and Lamb of God.  

It sort of comes to me while I write and sometimes something will sound good at first but as I listen to it more it looses its luster and I take it out of the song.

I suggest getting powertab and looking up songs from your influences and just look at how they composed their songs and try to apply to your own work.

you can get powertab here power-tab.net  just follow the links to download it.  it is free.  and you can look up tabs for it here ultimate-guitar.com.  It takes some time to get use to writing music with it but once you get use to it, it is an excellent tool.

I got the same problem and i always second guess if it sounds good, then i take it out. Easy to get frustrated.::stare

there isn't a right or wrong answer. write some shit down when you are in different emotional state of minds. then just decide what sounds good with those lyrics and how you want to portray those lyrics. I used to have a tough time too but keep going because it will get easier! keep rocking!::sinister

just play chords!! look at any slayer tab and its CHORDS and SCALES and random notes!! and obviously play them FAST!!
