If you are just referring to the St Anger record then it's perfectly explainable.
He is just shouting into a mic. No pop filter, no EQ, nothing.
That IS how normal people sound before producing and mixing.
They wanted a RAW record, thats what they got.

then how do ppl sing then? Like you know hitting notes? if he went through all that trouble to have his voice trained then hed know how to do the intervals right?
vocal intervals during ONE. Simplistic but fit. if you keep at that and play thrash its beautiful.
I am very picky when it comes to vocalists. seeing what hes become is disgusting.
