BLACK SABBATH CHANGED THE WAY WE THOUGHT ABOUT HEAVY METAL IN THE 70'S WHEN EVERYTHING WAS ALL HAPPY AND SHIT    THEY WERE ONE OF THE FEW DARK AND MENACING FORCES LEFT TO MUSIC NOT TO MENTION TONI IOMMI CHANGING FOREVER THE WAY METAL SOUNDED BIRTHING BLACKMETAL IF YOU WILL ON THE OTHER HAND...................
PANTERA TOTALLY REVAMPED THE METAL  SCENE IN THE 80S BRINGING US HARD LOUD POWERFULL MUSIC IN A TIME WHEN POISEN WAS GETTING PRICKED BY THORNS AND MOST METAL HAD GONE GLAM NOT TO MENTION DIMEBAG (WHO WAS VERY HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY SABBATH AND KISS)  AND THE REVOLUTION WHICH TOOK PLACE ON HIS GUITAR.
TO SAY ONE OF THESE BANDS IS GREATER OR BETTER THAN THE OTHER WOULD IN MY OPINION BE AN INSULT TO BOTH BANDS THEY BOTH CHANGED METAL FOR THE BETTER AND THEY BOTH SAVED METAL AS WE KNOW IT AND LOVE IT TODAY METAL WOULD LIKELY STILL BE CRAP WITHOUT EITHER OF THESE BANDS

It depends on the album. I like Panteras Vulgar Display of Power then Sabbath over most of Panteras other stuff.
