Last night, me, my friend, and his girlfriend were on our way to Moline, Illinois to go see Metallica.  Its a 3 hour drive to get there.  Our directions had us go into Iowa, and kinda go in a certain direction and then come back into Illinois to get to the place.  Right as we cross into Iowa, over the bridge thats over the Mississippi River, we are driving and then BOOM!  I thought we had only hit a pothole...until the hood of the car flew up, causing mass panic, and no visibility in front of us, causing us to swerve right, and then back left, and finally we somehow spun around what seemed like a billion times into this grass median separating eastbound and westbound traffic.  The front of my friend's girlfriends car is pretty much fucked, as well as the hood, and the people that came to our aid said we had hit a deer, and managed to somehow avoid hitting another.  They also said one side of the car came off the ground and they thought we were gonna flip for sure.  Had we swerved to the right all the way, we fall of the road and fall down to our deaths, or if we flipped, we flip into oncoming traffic on the expressway, and perhaps even fall off the road on that side to our deaths, or we could have gotten nailed by a car from the direction we were traveling or the oncoming traffic.  But somehow, the one possible scenario where none of us got badly hurt occurred.

Cops come...tow truck comes...blah blah..We decide we are only 10 minutes ride from the venue (and at this point, im assuming the first band was off and they were setting up for Down, so we still could make it in time), and the car was still drivable, that somehow we can keep the hood down, and avoid getting fucked for the  broken headlights that were no longer working.  Well tow truck driver gives us a cable to hold the hood down, and says he will escort us to the show, but bad went to worse cause the cord snapped, hood flies up again, windshield now cracks.  Pull over again and decide what to do.  We still say fuck it we are going to the show, we are too close and we had come too far.  Tow truck driver gives us his strongest cable, and we duck-taped the hood down and make it during Metallica's set.

I didnt catch the whole set, but according to the internet, it went like this:

That Was Just Your Life
The End of the Line
Harvester Of Sorrow
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Kirk Solo #1
One
Broken, Beat & Scarred
Cyanide
Sad But True
Wherever I May Roam
The Four Horsemen
Kirk Solo #2
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets
Blackened
Kirk Solo #3
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Last Caress
Breadfan
Seek and Destroy

Show ends and we cant drive home cause we would have to take all side streets cause we didnt wanna do over 45mph and that would have taken 6+ hours, so we are forced to get a hotel room at what is possibly the worst hotel ive ever stayed in, and initially they said they were all out of rooms and then as we are getting in the car, they magically had a room for us.

We wake up today very fucking early, duck tape the car more, go slow on all these long streets in the middle of nowhere with only cornfields around, and we get fucked again.  A FUCKING FLAT TIRE.  We go to put the spare on, and we have no tools at all to put the tire on.  We flag someone down, and they let us use thier shit, but they drive off right as we finished. The spare was really low on air and finally someone drove by and told us where we could go to get a new tire cause we still had a long way to go.  It was 30 fucking degrees out while changing the tire with winds blowing like crazy.  We get the tire repaired after waiting for like an hour and a half and slowly made our way home.

Needless to say im home now.  somehow...  luckily we have credit cards or else we had a combined total of around 40$ in cash and would have been more fucked

You must have used MapQuest like me. I went down to Moline this summer for the Rush concert and the directions sent us the same way. I-80 bridge over the Mississippi River then down through Bettendorf, Iowa and across that other bridge into Moline. How stupid......we went home the easy way I-74/I-280 back to I-80 home. No fucking bridges and no Iowa. It sucks when you go somewhere for the first time and these stupid mapping services sent you fucked up directions. Atleast you're all ok. Metallica had a great set-list last night!

Harvester Of Sorrow
For Whom The Bell Tolls
The Four Horsemen
Blackened
Last Caress
Breadfan

Fuck Yeah!!!!!!

Man, if Cheech and Chong weren't in town last night I'd have been there with you. Thats ok though, I'm still hittin' the Milwaukee and both Chicago shows, and maybe a couple shows on the 2nd US leg.

If I was on my way to a Metallica show I would have had a near death experience too, because if I had to go to a Metallica concert I would try to kill myself.

lmao i didnt even know what you were talking about at first. But now I know. It was amateur night. What they didnt know is that certain year and certain model of that car had a metal plate under the seat. It was the only thing that saved me from blowing up. They never found out who did it. But I knew.
