After listening for over a month, fucking LOVE Warbringer – A War without an End. Very remnanistic of early Slayer, but so much more. great breaks, great guitar solos, kick ass drums and awesome vocals. I love the overall themes; war songs kick ass.
In short, im giving you a no suckage guarantee. This should absolutely be the next album you buy if you haven’t bought already.

The CD is fantastic; quite possibly may remain one of the best for 2008. I havent seen them live... but after listening to the CD, I find it hard to believe they were "sort of funny". I didnt get a hint of anything gimmicky about their album.
By the way... What are your thoughts on Ayreon album you bought? If you remember I believed that you wouldnt like it simply because its too close to a pink floyd type of sound.

Well again they weren't bad, the music actually sounded cool, but the stage presence was a bit laughable. They were trying way to hard to look like they were transported here via time travel from the 80's. That and the singer used his singing voice to talk between the songs, which made everyone cringe a little. I was just a bit embarrassed for them, but it's not like that stuff can't be corrected if they work on it.
I actually like the Ayreon. It's different, but I like it. It is definitely more mellow than I expected and I see how you can compare them w/ Pink Floyd. They are definitely closer to Pink Floyd than to Dream Theater, like I was expecting.

i actually would say the exact opposite. this is the opposite of what american metal needs. thrash has a serious problem with being overly generic and copying off of itself. warbringer is the biggest old slayer knock-off i've ever heard. if this was metal's saving grace, we should just have slayer tour and only play haunting the chapel. that would be 20 times better than seeing these fuckin kids get up and do their best slayer impression every night.
however, when it comes to new thrash bands i think municipal waste does it best. i think they atleast bring something somewhat interesting to the plate, without being a complete knock-off of someone else.

I think the worst offender of complete Slayer rip-offage is Demiricous though, or at least on their first album.
I think Skeletonwitch is a pretty original modern thrash band though.

Yeah… I am surprised you like Ayreon considering your dislike for Floyd. And yeah, nothing like Dream Theater. Speaking of Dream Theater, ive been listening to them a lot lately. Fuck they are good.

currently im a little tired of this argument. Slayer had a good sound and so any band who by chance sounds a little like them is a knock off. thats crap because they arent copying slayer at all. What guitar solos did they rip off? what songs are singing about the same topics? what drumming beat did they steal? Their album doesnt look like a slayer album... the band members dont look like slayer...
seriously... There is nothing generic about warbringer. You want to talk generic bands lets talk about HeavenShallburn or Hatebreed (two bands I actually like a lot, but will admit they are generic as hell)... When you can actually play like these kids can, nothing you do is fucking generic unless its a blaitent rip off... and i didnt see that happening with them. But since you did... what are they copying? How exactly are they a slayer rip off. Give me specific fucking examples. Or leave a good fucking band alone.
