Very underrated. Opium Trail is one of my all-time favorite songs. Phil Lynott is undoubtedly and undeniably a lyrical and musical genius. So many people like to judge them off of "The Boys Are Back In Town" alone, but that's silly. So MY question is, to all you Thin Lizzy fans out there, what's yr favorite song? It's a tough question; I don't think I could fairly answer it myself.
i never fully got into Thin Lizzy. but they should definitely get some sort of recognition for actually carrying on without Phil Lynott. i would be lying to you if i told you i'd know anything about the band.
FTW

Great topic!
I hate to be cliche but The Boys Are Back In Town is my favorite song of theirs, it is one of the best songs ever. And it had one of the alltime cheesiest throwaway lines too, "Hey You, good looking female", me and my brother used to always crack up every time we heard that one. I was 14 when that came out, that was a great album. Emerald is probably my second favorite song of theirs, some great guitar work in ther, kind of their Freebird type jam.
Im a huge Lizzy fan. I have all of there cds thru Black Rose, didnt like the last 3 ones that much. IMO the two bands most influential to metal tht dont get as much credit as they should are Lizzy and UFO(When they had Michael Schenker).
And even though the rest of the band was/is geat, they are not Thin LIzzy without Phil Lynott and I cant blame them for trying to make a buck but I couldnt bring myself to see them without him.

Thin Lizzy were a great live band in their prime......a great intro to what the band was actually like would be the live album Live and Dangerous. Also, the album with John Sykes on guitar (Thunder and Lightning) has some great metal guitar shit on it. As far as Michael Schenker goes, it was him and Jimmy Page and Tony Iommi that made me decide to learn how to plat guitar. VERY Underated. And the guy can't read a lick of music and has no musical theory knowledge, he just plays what sounds good to him. Incredible.

In reference to the poster who thought Gary Moore played with Whitesnake, it is John Sykes who was with Thin Lizzy (in the twilight of Phil era) that played with Whitesnake, not Gary Moore. Sykes and who is fronting the current version of Thin Lizzy was on That Metal Show recently promoting their new live album and tour.
Their upcoming Chicago show got cancelled, Im assuming due to lack of ticket sales. I thought about going as Im a huge Lizzy fan, they were one of my favorites growing up along with UFO, Deep Purple, BOC (yes Im old) but I would have a hard time seeing a Phil-less Lizzy. Im kinda gald the show got cancelled as I dont have to face that dilemma.

My favorite song would be Bad Reputation, but Jailbreak, and the Cowboy Song are good to, and The Boys Are Back In Town is also a badass song, I won't deny that.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with "The Boys Are Back In Town"... I just think it's a little silly that that song gets tons more recognition than any of their other songs.

It is the Enter Sandman of their career, honestly that is just what seems to be a lighthearted song, really reminds me of Boston(The Band) when I hear it, the rest of their songs have a dark feeling to them, I know what you mean, but you have to look at it through the "normal" persons eyes.
